Call for tender for a study on Digital Short-Range Radio (DSRR) - Market update and status review

In March 1993 the ERC adopted Decision (93)01 on the frequency bands to be designated for the coordinated introduction of Digital Short-Range Radio (DSRR). The technical standard for DSRR, as specified by ETSI and supported by the European industry via ECTEL (European Telecommunications and Professional Electronics Association), describes a low-power, portable DSRR transmitter-receiver operating in simplex mode in the 933-935 MHz band or in semi-duplex or full-duplex mode in the 933-935 MHz band in association with 888-890 MHz.

The Commission has become concerned that, to the best of its knowledge, no DSRR equipment has yet to come to the market and little discussion of its potential has occurred outside the professional arena. It is important for an independent study to be undertaken to determine the technical status of DSRR in terms of standards, availability of components, test equipment and manufacturing concerns. In addition, a comprehensive and independent market survey should be undertaken to ascertain the likely date of introduction to the market and establish both the positioning in the market and any anticipated problems.

Further detailed specifications are described in the terms of reference.
