Within the framework of the THERMIE programme, a workshop on energy-efficient and environmentally sound glass melting processes was held on 27-29 September 1993 in Lazne Sedmihorky, in the Czech Republic. The workshop focused on: - The energy efficiency and environmental problems of the Czech glass industry; - The status of improved energy technologies of the glass industry in European Union countries; - A discussion of implementation barriers and possible further actions. The workshop provided a useful platform for the exchange of information on the topics of energy efficiency and environmental protection. The Czech participants found the experience of the Western experts very informative and a request for closer cooperation was expressed.
