The European Commission has decided not to oppose a concentration between Daimler-Benz AG and RWE AG in the field of solar energy. Daimler-Benz and RWE intend to concentrate their solar energy activities in the joint venture Angewandte Solarenergie GmbH (ASE). Terrestrial solar energy equipment will constitute the dominant part of ASE's activities. The joint venture will face several powerful competitors with a high innovative potential. The market is emerging and the technology which is expected to be the commercial standard is still being developed. The operation will therefore not result in a dominant market position.
