The European Commission, in collaboration with the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) and the Task Force for Human Resources, Education, Training and Youth (TFHR), has taken the initiative of creating a European University Postgraduate Degree in International Humanitarian Assistance. The Degree, organized in the framework of the ERASMUS programme, is already being taught this academic year (1994/1995) in five European universities: Aix-Marseille III (France), Bochum (Germany), Deusto-Bilbao (Spain), Universite Catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and Oxford (United Kingdom). The College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) will offer the Degree course as of September 1995. The Degree's syllabus includes the following major issues in the field of international humanitarian aid: - Law; - Geopolitics; - Management/logistics; - Anthropology; - Medicine/epidemiology. The studies are organized by means of a Network of Humanitarian Assistance (NOHA) between the five universities. The network, which is part of the ERASMUS programme, organizes exchanges between students and lecturers, intensive programmes, and common teaching development initiatives.
