The European Commission, DGentitled "Access to large-scale facilities: The large installations plan (1989-1992)". The report details the European Community programme to support the access of researchers to large-scale scientific and technical installations. It also contains the results of European research projects supported under the Commission's innovative pilot programme. Under the large installations plan (1989-1992), the European Commission funded 17 large-scale scientific and technical installations located across the European Union. As a result, more than 1,600 European researchers have had free access to these facilities and have been able to carry out research at the cutting edge of science and technology. This publication contains synopses, with illustrations, of the 17 projects funded under the large installations plan. Key facts, such as the number and nationalities of the researchers who worked at each installation and contact names and addresses, arprovided. The success of the experimental large installations plan led to its continuation under the Human Capital & Mobility programme (1990-1994), which funded 66 facilities. The activity is planned to be developed and further expanded under the forthcoming Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme (1994-98) under the Fourth Framework Programme.
