The European Council has published its Decision 94/920/Euratom of 15 December 1994 adopting a specific programme for research and training in the field of nuclear fission safety (1994-1998).

The Decision sets the amount deemed necessary for carrying out the programme at ECU 160 million, which includes a maximum of 12.5% for the Commission's staff and administrative expenditure. The Decision contains the scientific and technological content and objectives of the programme, as well as the specific rules for its implementation.

An advance notice of the call for proposals was published on 15 December 1994, followed by the full call on 17 January 1995. The text of this call, outlining the programme areas and objectives, can be found in RTD-News RCN 3561.
