An information meeting on the creation of the European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources, EUFORES, was held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 1 February 1995.

The establishment of the Forum was decided as a result of the conference on "An action plan for renewable energy sources in Europe" which took place in Madrid in March 1994.

The Forum has established a Governing Board which will carry out the following:

- Conclusion of legal processes to create the Forum;
- Develop the needed activities to increase the membership base;
- Continue with the follow-up activities to increase the membership base;
- Devise the structure of the Forum and make it operative;
- Prepare and convoke a first general assembly.
