In all the activities within the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme under the Fourth Framework Programme, special attention is paid to the science and technology needs of the EU's less-favoured regions. For example, grants are available for established researchers who propose to join a research team in a less-favoured regions. With the accession of the new Member States, Burgenland in Austria and the least densely populated regions in Finland and Sweden have been included in the list of less-favoured regions, for the purposes of the implementation of the TMR programme.
