The first call for proposals for the specific programme for research and technological development, including demonstration, in the field of agriculture and fisheries (including agro-industry, food technologies, forestry, aquaculture and rural development) (1994-1998) was published on 15 December 1994. The results of the first call for proposals have just been released.

A total of 932 proposals were received from 17 countries. These are:

- United Kingdom: 194;
- France: 150;
- The Netherlands: 100;
- Italy: 90;
- Germany: 71;
- Spain: 54;
- Belgium: 49;
- Denmark: 41;
- Sweden: 37;
- Greece: 35;
- Ireland: 32;
- Finland: 26;
- Portugal: 18;
- Austria: 17;
- Norway: 12;
- Iceland: 5;
- Switzerland: 1.

The following types of actions were received:

- Concerted actions: 82;
- Shared-cost actions: 808;
- Demonstration projects: 23;
- Ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA): 6;
- Shared cost (integrated): 5;
- Thematic networks: 8.

The type of organizations requesting funding are as follows:

- Institutions: 13;
- Independent organizations: 87;
- Educational organizations: 382;
- Research organizations: 413;
- Others: 37.

Applications for funding from the programme can be continuously submitted in an open call during the period 1995-1997 with the following submission deadlines for two selections per year: 15 April 1995, 15 June 1995, 15 December 1995, 15 June 1996, 15 December 1996, 15 June 1997, 15 December 1997.
