Feasibility studies in the domain of Euro-ISDN for 1995

The European Commission, DG XIII, has published an invitation for tender for the completion of feasibility studies in the domain of Euro-ISDN for 1995.

In the context of the definition of the Commission's telecommunications policy for the development of the information society, three aspects are seen as being of major importance:

- The potential large role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for developing a large market for the new services and applications;
- The role of intelligent networks in the development of trans-European networks (TENs);
- The monitoring of the development of Union-wide generic telematic services.

The invitation to tender consists of three feasibility studies relating to the aspects mentioned above. More detail is provided below:

- The potential of the SME market for the new telecommunications services:

This study aims at assessing the weight of the SME market as a leading edge market for new services and applications. Common requirements for SMEs will be analysed and the cost for the European SMEs sector in telecommunications will be evaluated;

- The role of intelligent networks in the development of TENs:

Taking full account of the study on the application of ONP principles to intelligent network functions, this study will identify the current market regarding intelligent networks;

- The development of generic services in the European Union: status and trends:

This study aims at creating a methodology for monitoring the development of the market for European-based generic services.
