Mrs. Edith Cresson, European Commissioner for science, research and development, and education and training, will visit Japan from 24 to 27 May 1995. Areas of interest to the Commissioner in Japan will relate to the development of EU-Japan dialogue and cooperation in the fields of science and technology, as well as of multilateral cooperation such as the ITER project. On 25 May, on the invitation of the Yomiuri Shimbun, she will attend the International Forum on Multimedia where she will deliver a keynote speech on "The role of education and training in the information society". Scope for enlargement of EU-Japan cooperation in the area of seismic research will also be explored. In this context, Mrs. Cresson will visit Kobe and the site of the Great Hanshin Earthquake.
