Call for proposals for Agriculture and Fisheries programme

The European Commission, DG VI, DG XII and DG XIV, has published a call for proposals for RTD actions for the specific RTD programme in the field of agriculture and fisheries (including agro-industry, food technologies, forestry, aquaculture and rural development) (FAIR) (1994-1998).

In conformity with Article 5.1 of the Council Decision establishing the FAIR programme, a work programme has been drawn up by the Commission detailing the scientific and technological objectives and types of RTD activities to be undertaken and the financial arrangements to be made for them.

The objectives and the research, technological development and demonstration activities included in this present call for proposals cover the areas described in the work programme.

Research and technological development activities will be addressed, in general, in shared costs RTD actions, research projects and demonstration projects, in conformity with the modalities for implementation set out in Annex III of the Decision on the specific programme. Moreover, certain measures will be taken as concerted actions as set out in the Council Decision and in the work programme.

The legal entities referred to in Articles 1, 2 and 3 of the Council Decision on the rules for participation in the specific programmes as well as the JRC are invited to submit proposals for RTD actions in the following areas:

- A. Shared cost: RTD projects:

Area 2: Scaling-up processing methodologies:
2.1 Chemical and physical processes;
2.2 Bioprocessing;
2.3 Control systems;

Area 3: Generic science and advanced technologies for nutritious food:
3.3 Advanced and optimized technologies and processes;
3.4 Generic food science;

- B. Shared cost: demonstration projects:

Area 1: Integrated production and processing chains:
1.1 The biomass and bioenergy chain;
1.2 The green chemical and polymer chain;
1.3 The forestry-wood chain;

Area 2: Scaling-up and processing methodologies:
2.1 Chemical and physical processes;
2.2 Bioprocessing;
2.3 Control systems;

- Area 3: Generic science and advanced technologies for nutritious food:
3.1 Consumer nutrition and wellbeing;
3.2 New and optimized food materials and nutritious food products;
3.3 Advanced and optimized technologies and processes;
3.4 Generic food science;

- C. Concerted actions:

Area 2: Scaling-up and processing methodologies:
2.1 Chemical and physical processes;
2.2 Bioprocesses;
2.3 Control systems;

Area 3: Generic science and advanced technologies for nutritious food:
3.3 Advanced and optimized technologies and processes;
3.4 Generic food science;

Specific measures in support of SMEs (exploratory awards and cooperative research) and training and mobility grants can be submitted in an open call throughout the duration of the specific programme.

Detailed information concerning the procedure to follow for the submission of proposals (information package) and the contract that will be established in respect of selected proposals will be available on request from the Commission's services. The description of work undertaken in previous programmes and related activities will also be provided upon request.

Proposals must be sent to the Commission before 15 September 1995 (12.00).
