Electronic data interchange (EDI) in the area of customs and indirect taxation

The European Commission, DG XXI, has published a call for tenders for the provision of technical and administrative support within the framework of the IDA programme (interchange of data between administrations).

This call has been published with a view to strengthening the Commission's actions in the area of electronic data interchange (EDI) message design, profiling and documentation. It is also intended to reinforce the technical assistance given to the European Commission customs and indirect taxation projects containing EDI work packages.

The work to be subcontracted is divided into two lots:

- Lot 1: EDI message design, EDI technical assessment, provision of advice and production of supporting documentation and the provision of EDI expertise, on demand, in the areas of:
. Integration of EDI services in a client/server environment;
. Prospective analysis of near-, medium- and long-term EDI strategy for the customs and indirect taxation area considering the possible evolution of the customs and indirect taxation requirements and of EDI technology;
. EDI security;

- Lot 2: Feasibility study to define an automated information base for EDI-related information in DG XXI, including paper and electronic sources and the design and development of a prototype for the preferred option.
