The European Commission has announced the launch of a new project - PROSOMA-Esprit - aimed at helping companies publicize the results of projects carried out under the ESPRIT programme. The objective of the project is to help improve ESPRIT's industrial impact by promoting innovation and technology transfer. The project will work closely with the EC RTD information service, CORDIS.

The PROSOMA-Esprit service will take promotional and descriptive material from participating contractors and convert it into a market-oriented audio-visual presentation, including films, images, animation, interviews and demonstrations. This multimedia on-line presentation of results will be provided via CD-ROM and the Internet.

A pilot programme was launched in 1995, resulting in a brochure covering 101 results, as well as a sample CD-ROM presenting 25 projects. The CD-ROM was demonstrated at the EITC'95 Exhibition in November 1995.

Additional content materials will be developed in the first quarter of 1996. ESPRIT projects wishing to make use of the service should approach their relevant Commission project office. If accepted, they may begin preparing their material, which will be integrated into the multimedia database, ready for dissemination through brochures, the WWW and CD-ROMs. The Commission hopes that over 200 project results will be covered by mid-1996 and that the service will be fully operational in the first half of 1997.
