The Italian Agency for the Promotion of European Research (APRE-ARC) has, in its role as an INNOVATION Relay Centre, published a practical guide to European research funding, "European research: Guide to the preparation of a successful proposal", aimed at all those wishing to participate in European RTD programmes. The guide provides concrete answers to the most frequently asked questions and includes a checklist of important elements to be verified, and errors to be avoided, in order to benefit from the opportunities offered by the European Union in the field of RTD. In particular, it focuses on aspects relating to EU application procedures, project preparation and obtaining the right information and documentation. The guide is divided into nine chapters which follow the progression from the initial project idea to the final editing of the proposal: - The European Union's research policy; - How to participate; - When to participate; - From the idea to the project proposal: the preliminary phases; - Preparing a research proposal; - Principal contractual aspects; - Evaluation of the proposals; - Short outlines of the specific programmes; - Information sources and bibliographical references.
