The introduction and usage of advanced telecommunications infrastructures is vital for the prosperous development of the economy in the European Union. Particular attention is attached to the needs of citizens and SMEs for which the access to modern services is often more difficult than for large enterprises. The European Commission, DG XIII, has now published a call to tender for two categories of studies relating to the aspects mentioned above. The two categories are: - Studies related to policy aspects of the development of telecommunications infrastructures; - Studies related to the support of trans-European telecommunications networks. Proposals are invited in the following areas: - First category: . Use of videoconferencing in the EU; . Evolution of Internet and the World Wide Web; . Analysis of the introduction and use of Euro-ISDN based services by SMEs in the context of the migration of applications to Euro-ISDN; . Lessons to be learned from the TEN-ISDN preparatory action, 1993-1995; - Second category: . Interconnectivity and interoperability; . First steps towards the implementation of the "EURO-label"; . Cooperative framework study for trans-European networks.
