Study on facility sharing for telecommunications infrastructure

The European Commission DG XIII has published an invitation to tender for the completion of a "Study on recommended practices for collocation and other facility sharing for telecommunications infrastructure". The aim of the study is to give a comprehensive background to, and to provide practical guidelines for, collocation and facility sharing when this is required.

The study will examine collocation and facility sharing practices (e.g. ducts, trenches, poles, masts, buildings) in use in telecommunications and in related other sectors (broadcasting and energy). It will cover practices both within the EU and in selected other countries and regions, in particular the USA, Australia and Japan.

On the basis of the results of the analysis of existing practices, planning and environmental requirements, including cost aspects, and taking into consideration the EU regulatory and political requirements and technological developments, the study will provide practical guidelines for collocation and facility sharing of telecommunications infrastructure for use by operators and regulators in EU Member States.
