The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report on the evaluation of Area 3 (Aeronautics) of the Industrial and Materials Technology (IMT) programme (1990-1994), adopted under the Community's Third RTD Framework Programme. The IMT Area 3 programme for aeronautical research followed on from the aeronautical research activity carried out under Area 5 of the BRITE/EURAM programme (Second Framework Programme). Both programmes received a strong response from the aeronautics industry, research establishments and universities, with the volume of research proposals greatly exceeding the allocated Commission budgets. The budget available under IMT Area 3 was approximately ECU 61 million. The evaluation report includes: - An executive summary; - A general introduction; - A historical perspective; - The evaluation of the management and of the results of the programme; - The conclusions and recommendations for the future. Annexes include terms of reference, the IMT Area 3 work programme, criteria for the selection and evaluation of projects and statistical data.
