The European Commission has proposed four new programmes aimed at reinforcing EU-China cooperation. The four programmes proposed are:

- EU-China Village Governance Programme:
The programme on village governance aims to strengthen electoral practice and self-government in rural China;

- EU-China Junior Managers Programme:
The junior managers programme will provide a pool of young European managers fluent in Chinese and well versed in the business culture of the country;

- EU-China Norms and Standards Cooperation Programme:
The norms and standards programme will improve awareness of the differences between European and Chinese systems for testing and certifying products for each other's markets. The programme will promote the European standards system as an example of best practice and provide support to the relevant institutions in China through technical assistance, training, analysis, workshops, industrial visits and exchange of information;

- Extension of the "Asia-Invest" programme to China:
"Asia-Invest" is an economic cooperation initiative created to boost two-way trade between the EU and Asia by:
. Facilitating investments;
. Raising awareness of opportunities in Asia among European businessmen;
. Supporting business-to-business contacts.

The programme, which will now be extended to China, will make several instruments available to give financial support to activities promoting business-to-business cooperation and investment. These include support to: strategic alliances between Asian and European companies, business round-table meetings, and activities under the "Business Priming Fund". The programme includes a network to ensure effective links with professional organizations in both Europe and Asia.
