The results of five short-duration projects financed by the European Community, within the framework of its specific RTD programme in the field of Telematics Applications of common interest, are now being made widely available as part of their final dissemination phase. The projects, which were completed in 1995, covered topics ranging from programme and project management to technology and standards relevant to the development and operation of Telematics Applications.

The five projects in question are:

- STARTEL: A structured overview and classification of the major information and communication technologies and tools for developing telematics applications. Also a didactic set of application development scenarios, with guidance in the process of transforming end-user requirements into a system built by selecting, assembling and integrating appropriate technologies.

- T-BOOK: Comprehensive and cross-referenced information on enabling technologies, standards and methods used for developing telematics applications. Its unique compilation of advanced telematics applications on aspects such as user requirements, actors and roles also provides insights into trends and strategies being adopted in the various domains.

- MATISSE: A PC tool for organizations proposing telematics application projects or executing them to assess their core competencies. The domains covered by the tool include: service management, configuration management, procurement, standards and specification management. One of the key features of the tool is the explanation of the current best practices for each of the aspects making up the core competencies. A limited number of copies of the tool are still available from the Telematics Engineering Office.

- MANDATE: A methodological framework with guidelines and recommendations for the management of trans-European telematics projects (including, for example, a useful workshop organization reference manual and practical concertation guidelines). Also an information structuring framework for disseminating project results on CD-ROM's. A free CD-ROM is available from the Telematics Engineering Office.

- PEPITA: Process engineering trends for private and public organizations requiring telematics applications. A survey of opportunities for, and obstacles to, the introduction of telematics applications in various user organizations using a business process engineering approach. A free CD-ROM containing all the results is available from the Telematics Engineering Office.

The release of the results of these projects to a wider audience coincides with the opening of the last calls of the Telematics Applications programme for sectoral projects and integrated applications proposals for digital sites.
