The European Commission launched a call for proposals for RTD activities under the specific RTD programme in the field of agriculture and fisheries (including agro-industry, food technologies, forestry, aquaculture and rural development) on 17 December 1996 (OJ No S 244 of 17.12.1996 p. 41) - see CORDIS focus No 77 of 23 December 1996, p. 9. It should be noted that proposals may be submitted for the following areas of the Work Programme: - Area 1: Integrated production and processing chains; - Area 4: Agriculture, forestry and rural development (selected sub-areas); - Area 5: Fisheries and aquaculture. The above areas may be addressed by RTD projects (shared cost projects) or by concerted actions. Proposals may also be submitted for activities under Area 6 - "Objectives achieved by concertation". This aims to coordinate and provide means for efficient exchange of information among European scientists, and will be implemented through thematic networks and concerted actions. Proposals may be submitted for objectives addressed by means of horizontal activities in the following areas: - Ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA): shared-cost actions (RTD projects, thematic networks), concerted actions, in all the areas of the work programme including Area 2 - "Scaling-up and processing methodologies" and Area 3 - "Generic science and advanced technologies for nutritious foods"; - Demonstration activities: shared-cost actions (demonstration projects) in the above-mentioned areas, including Area 2 - "Scaling-up and processing methodologies" and Area 3 - "Generic science and advanced technologies for nutritious foods". Those interested in preparing a proposal in response to this call should consult the tender documents, in particular, the Work Programme and the 1996 Annex to the Work Programme. All correspondence and proposals for RTD activities for this call should be sent to: European Commission Secretariat of the FAIR programme (DGs VI, XII and XIV) DG XII - E/2 8 Square de Meeûs B-1050 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2960292; Fax +32-2-2964322
