CEDEFOP, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training, a European Union Agency, has published policy guidelines for its medium-term priorities up to the year 2000.

The guidelines, which are to be implemented in the formulation of CEDEFOP's annual work programmes, call for the Centre to be an active partner in policy and practice. The guidelines set out three thematic priorities for the activities of the Centre:

- Promoting competencies and lifelong learning;
- Monitoring developments in vocational education and training in the Member States;
- Serving European mobility and exchanges.

In implementing the annual work programmes, the Centre will cooperate and coordinate with other Community initiatives and bodies, as well as national activities. In addition, the Centre will make use of innovatory practice and techniques and will use information and communications technologies for their dissemination. The Director of the Centre will be responsible for the implementation of the guidelines and will also be responsible for implementing a number of measures to improve its administration.
