The European Environment Agency has published an invitation to tender for editing assistance in connection with the compilation of the three-year assessment report on the state of the environment in Europe. The European Environment Agency (EEA) provides information for those concerned with the development of European environmental policy, as well as for the wider European public. In 1995, the EEA published the Dobris Assessment of Europe's environment. The Conference of European Environment Ministers meeting that year requested a follow-up report, for its next meeting, which will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, in June 1997. Consequently, the EEA is currently working on the follow-up report, provisionally entitled "Dobris+3", and wishes to contract outside editing assistance to complete the report. The contract will run between July and December 1997, approximately. The agency is looking for a highly experienced consultant to work in-house, in Copenhagen, to assist the editors in the final writing and layout of the report. Experience in writing environmental reports will be of far more importance for this task than general editing experience. The working language is English. The consultant will undertake the following activities: - Editing the chapters of the report (14 in total); - Cross-checking and ensuring style consistency of the chapters; - Working on the scientific soundness of the text in an environmental journalist-oriented way; - To balance the text and the illustration in terms of appropriateness and relevance; - Capturing the main messages which should form the basis and structure of the executive summary of the report; - Drafting the executive summary. Detailed specifications can be obtained from: European Environment Agency Mr. Peter Bosch Kongens Nytorv 6 DK-1050 Copenhagen K Fax +45-33367128 Completed tenders, marked "Reply to call for tender No EEA/AIA/001/97", should be submitted to the same address.
