The European Commission, DG XIII, has launched the fifth call for proposals under the specific RTD programme in the field of Telematics Applications.

Proposals are invited for projects within the objectives and scope of the Work Programme in the Telematics for Research sector. The following tasks are open for proposals:

- RE 1.1: Validation of the interconnection of national research networks p to 155 Mbit/s;
- RE 1.2: Validation of access methods to advanced communication services;
- RE 1.3: Managing the network as a resource.

These tasks complement task 6.30 of the ESPRIT programme (information technologies), the subject of a separate call published on 15 March 1997. The evaluation of proposals submitted to either programme in these tasks will be carried out in conjunction with each other.

Evaluation will be carried out in two steps, with selected projects invited to submit full proposals after an initial selection on the basis of short proposals. Short proposals should preferably be submitted by electronic mail. The indicative budget available for this call is ECU 5 million in total.
