The European Commission, DG XII, has launched a new homepage with information about the research-industry task forces.

The task forces were launched in 1995 by the Commission, with the aim of bringing together relevant parties within and outwith its services, in order to coordinate research activities on eight key topics:

- Car of tomorrow;
- Educational software and multimedia;
- New-generation aircraft;
- Vaccines and viral diseases;
- Trains and railway systems of the future;
- Intermodal transport;
- Maritime systems of the future;
- Environment - water.

Since each of these task forces is managed by different staff, in different departments of the Commission, existing information sources on the World Wide Web are located on several different sites. The aim of launching the new homepage is to collect links to all this dispersed information in one place, to facilitate access to the information.

Information on the aims and activities of each task force may be found, as well as up-to-date information on subjects such as calls for proposals, events and publications can be found easily on the site. In particular, information relating to the activities and experiences of the task forces and their contribution to the design of the Fifth RTD Framework Programme may be found.
