The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), an EU agency, has published its 1997 Work Programme.

CEDEFOP's 1997 activities will focus on key issues in the development of vocational training policy. A total of 12 projects will be undertaken. Eight of these will examine the development of vocational training policy in the Member States. Individual studies will be completed for the following countries, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Austria, Iceland and Norway, while an overview of "Key data on vocational education and training" will also be published.

Other projects will look at the financing of continuing vocational education and training, reciprocity between qualifications and the employment market, and quality standards in vocational education and training. The final project will investigate how vocational education and training can contribute to the free movement of trainees and apprentices.

Study visits, bringing together experts from EU Member States and Central and Eastern European countries will encourage the exchange of information and experience of individual countries' systems. The Centre's existing networks are to be expanded, with the same aim, while its general information dissemination activities, particularly those using electronic media will be increased during 1997.
