The Non-Food Agro-Industrial Research Information Dissemination Network (NF-2000) was originally established with funding from the EU's AIR research programme in the field of agriculture and agro-industry (including fisheries), predecessor of the currently running FAIR programme. The network consists of National Network Leaders (NNLs) in 14 European countries who collect and disseminate information on research relating to the non-food use of agricultural crops, forest products and biological waste.

The main objective of the project, launched in 1995 under the name NF-AIRID, is to bring the results of research and demonstration activities funded by the European Commission to the attention of potential users. In addition, the project aims to help avoid duplication between national and EC-funded research, as well as to help identify areas in which research is needed (or is, indeed, unnecessary).

The first phase of the NF-2000 project (NF-AIRID), which was completed in December 1996, resulted in the preparation of over 100 individual "Information Sheets" (NFS/001-NFS/103) covering the ECLAIR, AIR and FAIR programmes, as well as national and international activities and reports, etc. These have been brought together in the NF-AIRID final report, now available from the project coordinator (CPL Scientific Ltd., UK) or from the NNL for your country (Price: ECU 10).
