CORDIS, the Community R&D Information Service, has launched a World Wide Web homepage to provide information on the activities of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU in the research field.

The "Luxembourg Presidency RTD Information Service" will carry regularly updated information on the activities of the Research Council during the Luxembourg Presidency (1 July 1997 to 31 December 1997). In particular, the Luxembourg Presidency will chair the Council at a significant point in the development of the Fifth RTD Framework Programme, and the Service will carry full information on developments in this area.

The new Service aims to increase transparency in the EU's activities in the research field, and follows the successful Web services established by CORDIS for the Irish and Dutch Council Presidencies in 1996 and 1997.

In addition to providing information on the development of EU research activities, the Luxembourg Presidency Service, which is in both English and French, will also provide information on research in Luxembourg.

Information available on the Service will include:

- Details of the agenda and conclusions from the Research Council;
- A listing of events connected to the Luxembourg Presidency in the research field;
- Summaries or texts of speeches relating to research given by Luxembourg Ministers;
- Contact details for further information on research activities in Luxembourg;
- Links to a range of related Web sites, including Luxembourg's public research institutes and government servers.
