The European Commission has published a notice concerning the application for, and the grant of, financial aid for technical and economic research relating to the production and increased use of coal and steel and to occupational safety in the coal and steel industries.

Aid is awarded by the Commission under Article 55 of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). The procedure for the submission of applications for financial aid are laid down in a communication published in 1982 (OJ No C 159 of 24.6.1982). However, in view of the expiry of the Treaty in 2002 and the progressive and partial transfer of this sectoral research to the RTD Framework Programme, and in order to clarify the legal framework for multilateral research projects, the Commission has adopted a new standard contract for ECSC research.

The European Commission would accordingly advise all interested parties that the application form annexed to the Communication published in 1982 is no longer valid. The new form and new standard contract, together with an information pack on criteria and procedures for research funding under the various ECSC research programmes, may be obtained from the European Commission.
