The European Network of Women in Technology (WITEC) has developed a "European Database of Women Experts in Science, Engineering and Technology", aimed at promoting the role of women in the scientific field. The database, accessible through the World Wide Web, has been developed with support from the European Community's action programme for equal opportunities for men and women (DG V).

The aim of the database is to increase the participation of women experts in expert advisory committees and working groups, both nationally and at a European level. It is also intended to facilitate the development, across Europe, of specialist forums and networks highlighting the specific training and support needs of women.

The database provides a broad range of information on women experts in science, engineering and technology across Europe, including areas of specialization, membership of professional organizations, publications and current research activities. The user-friendly service makes it possible, for example, to locate experts in specific areas of expertise and in the country and/or region of your choice (i.e. an expert in Yorkshire (UK), with an engineering background and knowledge of water cleansing techniques).
