The European Commission, DG XIII, has established a service, within the Multilingual Information Society (MLIS) programme, to publicize multilingual applications and services developed by European companies, with special emphasis on those available through networks.

The new service is aimed at raising awareness and stimulating use of multilingual products and services available on the market. This initiative is being undertaken as an accompanying measure within the MLIS programme. As a first step, interested companies are invited to provide the Commission with a short presentation of their product. This will be made available in an inventory, regularly updated, which will be hosted on the I'M Europe Web server.

Presentations and demonstrations of certain products may, subject to agreement between the Commission and the company concerned, also be placed on the World Wide Web. These would be practical examples of available products, although it should be noted that the Commission would not be endorsing a product by placing it on this site. Some applications on the site may be highlighted by the Commission for short periods.

In addition, certain products which are attractive in terms of innovativeness, user-friendliness and suitability for demonstration, may be invited to participate in an EU stand at relevant exhibitions, the first of which will take place in the third quarter of 1997.
