The European Commission, DG XIII, has published the proceedings of an international conference on "Library automation in Central and Eastern Europe". The conference, which was held in Budapest, Hungary, on 10-13 April 1996, was jointly organized by the Community's Telematics Applications research programme ("Libraries" sector) and the Open Society Foundation. The event brought together some 250 experts from 26 countries. The programme focused on key topics regarding the introduction of information technology in libraries: standards, retrospective conversion of library records, document delivery, national bibliographies and cooperation and resource sharing. The proceedings provide a unique and comprehensive overview of the state of library development in Central and Eastern Europe, with a focus on library automation and networking.
