The European Community's Industrial and Materials Technologies research programme (BRITE-EURAM) has published a multimedia CD-ROM entitled "Industrial technologies for business". Designed as a dissemination tool, it presents the achievements of recently completed projects, as well as providing general information on Community research activities in the industrial technologies field.

The CD-ROM contains the synthesis reports, written by the project consortia upon project completion, for some 356 projects completed between 1994 and 1996. A database provides easy access to contact details for all the partners involved in these projects. Presentations of 45 success stories are included, along with an electronic version of the booklet "A measurable impact", which analyses the results of completed BRITE-EURAM projects.

In addition to the wealth of information on research results, the CD-ROM includes a range of fact sheets on the current and past Industrial and Materials Technologies (BRITE-EURAM) and Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) programmes, including staff contacts, as well as on the Fourth Framework Programme. Details on information sources including CORDIS and the Commission's Europa Web server are provided, along with contacts such as Innovation Relay Centres and the programmes' own contact points in the Member States.

Much of the general information is available in all official Community languages, and all the navigation tools used within the CD-ROM are available in all 11 languages, making the system more user-friendly. The CD-ROM is designed to run in a Windows 95 and Windows NT environment. Users with Internet access can also access information on CORDIS and Europa directly from within the CD-ROM, greatly extending the range of information available.

The Commission plans to publish an updated version of the CD-ROM annually, containing the project synthesis reports of all projects completed in the preceding year. The CD-ROM also includes a number of forms for users to provide feedback to the programme on the CD-ROM and its content and obtain further information.
