Antennae for the ASIA-INVEST programme

The European Commission has published an invitation to tender relating to the creation of antennae for the ASIA-INVEST programme in the Member States of the European Union.

The ASIA-INVEST programme was launched in October 1997 within the framework of activities to facilitate EU-Asia economic cooperation. The programme provides a number of instruments for the facilitation of business cooperation among EU and Asian small and medium-sized companies and of European investments in Asia.

In order to promote awareness of the ASIA-INVEST programme in the European Union, it is planned to establish a series of antennae. These antennae will act as promotion points in the different EU Member States. Their role, hosted by organizations with close links to the business community, will be to assist in disseminating information on ASIA-INVEST to agencies and companies and to assist the ASIA-INVEST Secretariat (established in Brussels) in the coordination and promotion of activities supported within the framework of the ASIA-INVEST programme. It is proposed that modest grants will be made available to the host organizations to contribute to the cost of activities related to their role as antennae.

Expressions of interest are invited from organizations which consider themselves to be appropriate hosts for the ASIA-INVEST antennae. There will be either one or two such host(s) in each EU Member State. The host organizations will be selected by the European Commission on the basis of an analysis of the different expressions of interest received. The principal criteria against which the expressions of interest will be judged will be their capability as multipliers and focus on SMEs.
