A new ISCONIS Web site is now available on the CORDIS WWW server. ISCONIS - Improving Scientific Cooperation with the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union - is an initiative of the International Association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the independent states of the former Soviet Union (INTAS).

The initiative originally resulted from a workshop organized by INTAS in Brussels, on 3-4 April 1997. The first meeting of the ISCONIS core group was held in July 1997. The main aim is to provide a forum for improving scientific cooperation and the exchange and sharing of information.

The ISCONIS Web pages provide information on the activities of the different funding organizations from INTAS Member States, as well as links to corresponding Web pages where these exist. Each organization has its own "factsheet" noting, among other things, the relationship of the organization with the NIS, the type of activities funded, the monitoring and evaluation systems employed, the financial transactions and taxation conditions.

The site offers a valuable information resource for scientists and students looking for opportunities in the NIS.
