The EUREKA initiative has published a guide entitled "Good practice in R&D collaboration management" designed to help European companies get over the difficulties of participating in cooperative projects. The guide looks first at the reasons for entering a collaborative project, and the advantages and the problems which may arise. Advice on finding partners and assessing their suitability is included, before the guide turns to the formation of collaboration agreements. Topics such as communications between partners and project management, as well as the consideration of cultural differences are covered. Finally, intellectual property rights and exploitation of research results are addressed as well as the problems created if the project breaks down.
