It formed the basis of the succeeding Community Environment and Environmental Protection programmes.

- Harmful effects of lead;
- Epidemiological surveys of the effects of air and water pollution;
- Effects of micro-pollutants on man;

The Commission was responsible for the implementation of the programme and was required to submit an annual report to the Council. Surveys and laboratory work were carried out under shared-cost contracts. The information resulting from the implementation of the programme was required to be disseminated in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2380/74 of 17 September 1974.
