Research and training programme (Euratom) - Safeguards and management of fissile materials -, 1973-1976

 
The programme was drawn up in accordance with the Council Resolution of 17 December 1970 concerning the procedures for adopting research and training programmes (Official Journal No L 16 of 20.1.1971).

The research activity of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in this direction was coordinated within similar activities carried out by other research groups in the Community in the framework of the European Safety and Reliability Research and Development Association (ESARRDA). Apart from this, direct collaboration in special fields has been established between the JRC and industrial firms.
To provide scientific and technical support to the Safeguards Directorate of the Commission and to suggest methods for more efficient and economic fuel management within the nuclear industry.
Three objectives:

- Systems analysis of accountancy procedures;

- Development of destructive and non-destructive techniques;

- Study of fool-proof sealing and identification techniques.
The Commission, assisted by the board of governors of the JRC, was responsible for the implementation of the programme by means of the services of the JRC (Ispra).
