Nanoscience and nanotechnology in Austria 2003 - 2011

Current status: the programme is at the stage of a formal recommendation from the Austrian Council for RTD to the Austrian Government (BMVIT). The modules and instruments should be defined and implemented by the end of 2002.

Budget: 4.1 M EUR per annum (in planning).
The objectives of the future Austrian Programme will be:
- to promote the Austrian NANO-expertise on (inter)national level by collecting and providing information about the players;
- to support the development of national fields of competence by fostering communication and co-operation between the players;
- to support the exploitation and dissemination of RTD-results.
The NANO-Network aims at an efficient and targeted communication between the Austrian NANO-players as well as internationally, e.g. with NANO-networks in other countries.
The development of highly qualified human resources in the NANO fields represents an integrated part of the Austrian NANO-initiative and will be reached through special modules for education & training for technicians and researchers in companies and research organisations.
The programme consists of 3 elements:
a) funding schemes for national and international RTD projects.
b) platform for information and communication (NANO-network).
c) training & education measures in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

All nanotechnology relevant sectors like information & communication technologies, materials science and life science. No specific priority has been defined yet.
Following Austrian INO-players organisations will be allowed to participate:
- research institutes (Universities, research centres etc.) and
- industries incl. SME's.

No evaluation procedure available yet.
