Generic bottom-up projects (Bottom-up Recherche d''Initiative) Open call up to year 2000

The DGTRE (The Directorate-general for Technologies, Research and Energy of the Ministry of the Region of Wallonia) is involved in financing RDT projects in the Region of Wallonia. All projects financed by the DGTRE prior to 2000 were based on an open call for proposals. The selection of the projects were based on three criteria: Scientific competence, Technological innovation and Economical feedback in Wallonia.
The indicative R&D budget allocated to Universities and Research centres for 2000 was approximately 48 Mio euros.
Give rise to bottom up research efforts in all fields including nanotechnology, Materials Science and Processing.
Prior to 2000, 2.33 Mio euros have been allocated to Nanotechnology oriented projects through different generic research programmes allowing bottom-up projects (ie not thematic calls). The funded projects are:

- Nanomaterials Céramiques (ULB, 1999-2001, 0.6 Mio euros).
- Nanomatériaux (UCL, 1999-2003, 1.5 Mio euros).
- Nanolithography: Nanolitho (UCL, 1999-2001, 0.23 Mio euros).
All projects financed by the DGTRE prior to 2000 were based on a bottom-up approach.
