Objective
To develop improved data collection, processing and visualization methods for optical and teleoperation in safeguards. Application of image processing techniques and computer aided teleoperation for automatic surveillance and remote verification in storage areas.
Progress to end 1990
- Implementation of new features for the automatic reviewing of video images, to allow for the selective detection of objects moving in different directions and at different speeds
- Design of a second generation integrated and computer controlled surveillance system for multicamera data recording and reviewing
- Design of the architecture of a computer assisted teleoperation system comprising a remotely guided vehicle, a manipulator arm, associated vision equipment, a graphical workstation and the main software functions
- Realization of a basic prototype of a remotely guided vehicle and a graphical workstation with the software for its interactive guidance
- Software development for the acquisition of laser range data and for the contour extraction of objects in range images
- Test of the developed ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) for image correlation and design of its computer interface
- Publication in INMM proceedings related to teleoperation
- Optical surveillance is included in the collaboration with the safeguards authorities in France, Canada and Japan.
Detailed description of work foreseen in 1991 (expected results)
- Installation of a manipulating system for teleoperation and the development of the first part of application software for its control
- Development of navigation software for the remote vehicle : integration of laser range data and use of 3D graphics for operator's aid
- Development of an image processing system for scene detection applied to front-end data reduction of multicamera systems
- Image recording on computer disk using image compression
- Study of a flexible system for multisensor data acquisition and processing for more general applications in the area of verification
- Development of a test method for testing the pattern recognition algorithm
Short description of evolution of work in 1992
- Characterization of performance in optical surveillance
- Automation in teleoperation by objective driven navigation
- System integrating independent safeguards devices
