Objective
The project will create an interactive multimedia presentation based on the mount of Olympos in Greece. The hardware platform at the end of the implementation phase will be CD-I (Compact Disk Interactive), covering the following 3 areas:
history of Olympus (discoveries of the bronze and iron ages, Dion the sacred town of Macedonians at the foothills of Olympus, King Philip of Macedonia and Alexander the Great, monasteries of Mount Olympos;
the ecosystem of Mount Olympos (wood areas and special characteristics of the ecology of Olympos, Olympian water currents (rivers, lakes, flooding), Wild animals and birds of Olympos, climatological analysis, the sub terrain of Olympus, old and recent morphodynamic activities at Olympos);
contemporary geography of Olympos (ecotourism, towns and villages, occupations of the inhabitants, touristic development).
The aim of the proposal is to provide a model for unleashing the rich cultural and historical heritage of Greece by using the interactive multimedia technology. At the end of the implementation phase two interactive CDs will be produced, one on the history of Mount Olympos based on the archaeological discoveries and the other on ecotourism. Both CDs will include new and unpublished material. The content of the files will take into account the remarkable number of publications related to Mount Olympos, Greek Mythology and Alexander the Great, during the 20th century. The material will be presented on CD-I by focusing on the audiovisual capabilities of the new technology. Extensive take will be taken for building a consumer oriented product. One possible approach is to suggest a number of possible surrogate tours, depending on the interests of the individual. The product will cover the ancient, classical and Hellenistic times of the Hellenic culture.
During the definition phase, the language of the product will be English. The final product will be in both Greek and English.
