Objective This proposal pursues the manufacturing of intermediate band materials and solar cells according to the following main strategies: a) Insertion of transition elements into III-V semicontuctor matrices; b) use of quantum dot systems to artifficially engineer intermediate band solar cells; c) development of intermediate band materials and solar cells based on InGaN; d) Insertion of transition elements into thin film polycristalline hosts; Approaches “a” to “c” rely on the use of concentrated sunlight to achieve cost competitive goals. Approach “d” relies on low cost materials.
