Museum of London: Journeys through London

Objective

The Project will design, produce and publish the first of a series of digital optical discs based on the collections of the Museum of London. This first title will be "Journeys through Nineteenth Century London", prepared as a CDI using full-screen full-motion video (FMV).

Choice of the nineteenth century allows the use of the widest possible range of material from the Museum's collections, including historic photographs, maps, paintings, prints and drawings, panoramas, objects, and ephemera; and historic movie film and sound recordings from other sources. The original material is supported by period music, voice-over and special effects to create an entertaining and informative audio-visual experience.

The disc allows the user either:

to follow any of eight thematic audio-visual journeys (on Transport; Port and River; Growth and Change; Living and Working in London; Art and Litterature; Entertainment and Recreation; Royal London; Nineteenth-century London Today);

to visit any individual site or sites, as required;

to construct their own journey, visiting a sequence of sites irrespective of theme; and

to explore information in more depth via a series of fact-files.

The disc will be prepared for a worldwide market, reflecting London's status as the world's greatest city in the nineteenth century. The title will initially be prepared in English, French, German and Dutch language versions.

The title is designed primarily for consumer use, but will also have a market in the educational and museum sectors. The partner group is the same as for the definition phase, comprising the Museum of London (UK; material source provider); Valkieser Multimedia (Nl; developer); Round One Media (UK; publisher); and CITE (project manager).
