Objetivo

- FUSE has the global objective of increasing the uptake of microelectronics technologies by all sectors of European industry.

- To increase the awareness of industrial enterprises of the benefits to be had from exploiting microelectronics technologies; and to increase the technical competence of participating enterprises.

The aim of FUSE is to stimulate more industrial enterprises to incorporate microelectronics technologies into their production, thereby increasing their competitiveness. A vital principle of FUSE is that the participating enterprise acquires the necessary know-how and experience to access and use microelectronics technologies themselves. More experienced enterprises or institutes may be enlisted for to carry out certain tasks (e.g. electronic design, production) or for training purposes.
The main instrument for achieving the goals of FUSE is the Application Experiment. In these experiments, the enterprise will carry out the design, manufacture and test of a component which is relevant to the improvement of their manufactured products.
The secondary instruments are the Technology Transfer Nodes (TTNs). These nodes are established in regions throughout Europe to provide a local interface to the participating enterprise. As well as information and support, they offer technical and economic expertise to assist enterprises in their selection and application of technologies. It is their task to promote awareness of the benefits of microelectronics technologies.
A Support Centre executes the administration of the FUSE project and provides additional promotion. They publish a FUSE Newsletter which is used as a dissemination tool by all TTNs.
