Objective
Organized crime does an intensive use of non-cooperative vehicles (cars and motorboats mainly) for a variety of criminal activities, as they are transport of illegal immigrants or smuggling of goods (especially drugs). This generates a very large number of operations carried out by law enforcement agencies in order to intercept these vehicles. During the vehicle interception operations, non cooperative vehicles stop is usually carried out using means which are not always effective, and very often dangerous for the safety and security of vehicle occupants and law agents. The law enforcement agencies in charge of this operations acknowledge that new control and interception means and procedures are needed in order to increase their capabilities to track and intercept the suspicious vehicles, minimizing all kind of risks for vehicle occupants and agents, and using the lowest possible volume of highly trained human resources.
The present project aims precisely, at increasing the capability of law enforcement authorities to remotely, safely and externally, control and stop non-cooperative vehicles in both land and sea scenarios, by means of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. For this, the UAV has to be equipped with some onboard system(s) providing the capability to intercept (slow and stop) the vehicles, and this is precisely the concept of the AEROCEPTOR system proposed in this project: AEROCEPTOR will be an unmanned aerial vehicle, supported by a Ground Control Station infrastructure, and equipped onboard with a set of several systems to perform the car/boats interception.
AEROCEPTOR aims at offering a cost effective solution taking advantage of already existing systems and Components of the Self. This means that AEROCEPTOR will take advantage of the existing equipments and systems to adapt them to the project if possible. In those cases where the necessary subsystems do not exist or do not meet AEROCEPTOR needs, they will be developed.
