Objective
Objectives
- Devise and implement a strategic methodology for the promotion of RET (Renewable Energy Technologies). The core aspect of this methodology is the concentration on the implementation of conditions for the future expansion of these technologies in the hotel sector. This will be done by the agencies mainly with a business-oriented approach on a regional level, in collaboration with the equipment manufacturing associations;
- Promote the implementation of renewable energy technologies (biomass, photovoltaic, geothermal and solar passive systems) in the tourism sector in which they have known very little technological development despite having achieved recent significant development in the wider building sector, in industrial applications and power generation;
- Promote the implementation of solar active systems that have already known technological development in the tourism sector of certain countries (i.e. hotels in Spain and Greece) to other regions of European countries with little or no applications of these systems. (e.g. Madeira, Portugal);
- Involve 5 regions of 5 countries and their local business actors like:
1) Local owners of tourism and leisure facilities;
2) Suppliers and manufacturers of RES technologies;
3) Local engineers and technicians.
As partners in developing the use and application of RET in the tourism and leisure industry and thus widen the penetration of these technologies in this key market for local development.
Description of work:
- Assess the regional hotel markets of 5 European regions regarding their energy consumption profile (Madeira, Andalusia, Sicily, East Attica, Corsica/Alps Maritimes);
- Assess the existing suppliers of RET (biomass, photovoltaic and geothermal, active and passive solar) and produce a hotel-oriented technology assessment study of these technologies;
- Evaluate and proceed with monitoring of 5 existing projects (with 5 different technologies);
- Elaborate an informative, executive type, business-oriented folder with the above 5 technologies (4 pages each) followed by 200 door to door presentations (40 for each region) of the contents of the folder;
- Elaborate of an executive design sheet comprising a conceptual approach for the technology to be applied followed by a generic implementation plan of the conceived application to 60 hotels (12 hotels per region) and visits of 30 potential investors to existing installations within the region or country;
- Organize 5 regional business meetings (one meeting per region) between suppliers and hoteliers;
- Support, in the form of sponsoring, to the implementation of five pilot projects (one pilot project per region);
- Process the monitoring and evaluate the results of the project.
Expected results:
The results of the actions pursued by CRES, 5 manufacturing associations, ADEME, AMG, SFH, SODEAN and AREAM will primarily be the stimulation of the renewable energy technology applications in the tourism sector. According to the project: evaluation and monitoring of existing projects, informative business folders, preliminary decision making designs, technical business meetings between manufacturers, suppliers and hoteliers and site visits will be carried out for the implementation of these technologies and their applications in hotels. This will inevitably lead in future to the increase of the manufacturing and commercial activities of the regions, the reduction of their CO2 emissions, the enhancement of the image of the regions and the consequent stimulation of their markets.
Moreover, the successful implementation of the new innovative strategic methodology for the implementation of the renewable energy technologies will provide a new approach and basis for similar future implementation activities (i.e. energy efficient technologies in the hotel sector).
