Behaviour of Zn and Pb in steel-making

Objective

The aim of this proposal is to obtain basic information of the partition of zinc and lead between steel, slag and dust in the melting process and means are to be investigated to influence this partition by process parameters such as steel and slag composition, temperature and external pressure. Thereby, insight will be gained into the possibilities of producing slags and dust with increased or decreased Zn and Pb contents or, if possible, to reduce the amounts of dust formed in the steel-making processes. A major stimulus for this work is the increasing amount of zinc containing scrap that the steel industry will have to recycle in the future.
