Objective
The specific objective of the proposed research is to address the following areas: - Overloads leading to ductile crack extensions during fatigue crack growth; - Modelling of crack tip environmental mechanisms under controlled stress intensity and electrochemical potential conditions; - Modelling of history effects based on plastic zone interactions and crack closure concepts; - Computer based fatigue life prediction procedures (and verification by testing) covering the full range of cyclic deformation history effects and incorporating both fracture mechanics concepts and a local stress/strain approach.
