Objective There is a general need for improved as well as more cost-effective, methods for spatially resolved elemental analysis of materials. The aim of this project therefore is to develop practical methods for laterally resolved microanalysis using state-of-the art Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) equipment, tailored to the needs of the steel industry. A successful outcome of the project will be beneficial for the competitiveness of European metallurgical industry, and it will also contribute to e.g. the safety of cars and the reduction of hazardous waste from steel plants.
